New Orleans Saints 2023 Schedule: Home, Away Games, Scores

The New Orleans Saints are still in the race to win the NFC South after defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Now in first place in the NFC South (but barely), the Saints face a resurgent Atlanta Falcons squad in the last game of the season.

Saints Still Sit Atop NFC South

The Saints started off the 2023 season with gutsy wins against the Tennessee Titans and the Carolina Panthers and dominated the New England Patriots in a shutout. But, they’ve dropped easy wins against Green Bay, Tampa, Atlanta and Houston.

Can quarterback Derek Carr return the Saints to greatness this season? It all depends on how the Saints gameplan the opponents in their home and away games.

Are The New Orleans Saints On Thursday Night Football?

The Saints have a Thursday Night Football game in the latter half of the season. New Orleans is one of four teams with four primetime games, which is right in the middle of the pack. The other teams are Miami, Jacksonville and Seattle.

Here are teams with primetime games:

  • Buffalo, Dallas, Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City (6 games)
  • Green Bay, New York Giants, Minnesota, Las Vegas, Philadelphia (5 games)
  • Baltimore, Cincinnati, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, New England, Pittsburgh (4 games)
  • Miami, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Seattle (4 games)
  • Carolina, Cleveland, Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee, Tampa Bay (2 games)
  • Washington (1 game)

Week 1: Saints 16, Titans 15

The Saints opened the season at home against one of the toughest teams in the AFC: The Tennessee Titans. After trailing the game in the first half, the Saints made just enough plays to squeak out a 16-15 victory.

A gutsy third-down call from Head Coach Dennis Allen, encouraged by Carr, put the game away for the Saints.

Week 2: Saints 20, Panthers 17

The New Orleans Saints used a variety of defenses to stifle the Carolina Panthers and first-year quarterback Bryce Young. The Saints won the game handily but let a lone touchdown in the waning minutes spoil what would have been a touchdown-less season so far.

Week 3: New Orleans 17, Packers 18

The New Orleans Saints lost their first game of the season 18-17 to the Green Bay Packers in Green Bay, Wisconsin. What makes this loss sting is that New Orleans was up 17-0 before the game unraveled.

Also, a major blow was when the Saints lost starting quarterback Derek Carr due to a hard hit. He was replaced by backup Jameis Winston, who couldn’t lead the Saints to score.

Week 4: Saints, 9, Tampa Bay 26

The New Orleans Saints laid in egg on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Super Dome. Derek Carr finished with 127 yards and was visibly uncomfortable when he threw the ball, with many of them being incomplete.

Carr isn’t completely healthy under center. It was very obvious in the Saints’ 26-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, in the Superdome.

Week 5: Saints 34, New England Patriots 0

The New Orleans Saints played their best game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023 against the New England Patriots.

Pats quarterback Mac Jones threw a pick-six to safety Tyrann Mathieu, which started the route for the Saints and New Orleans never looked back. The loss dropped New England to 1-4 while the Saints moved to 3-2.

Week 6: Saints 13, Houston Texans 20

The Saints lost to the Houston Texans on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023 in a very winnable game. New Orleans missed two field goals and Derek Carr’s last four passes in the final minute were all off-target.

Week 7: Saints 37, Colts 28

Derek Carr threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns as the Saints downed the Indianapolis Colts 37-38 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The win drew the Saints into a first-place tie with Atlanta in the NFC South.

Week 8: Saints 24, Bears 17

The Saints scored just enough offense to hold off the Chicago Bears, 24-17. The Saints defense notched three interceptions on quarterback Tyson Bagent, who subbed for an injured Justin Fields.

Week 9: Vikings 27, Saints 19

The Saints allowed Josh Dobbs to run and throw all over them in a 27-19 loss that New Orleans will look back on and regret. Derek Carr continued to struggle against the blitz and the Saints running game slowed to a crawl as injuries began to mount.

Should the Saints start Winston?

Week 10: BYE Week

Week 12: Saints 15, Falcons 24

Quarterback Derek Carr committed a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown and Taysom Hill fumbled inside the five yard line in two blunders that sinked the Saints, 24-15.

The loss allowed Atlanta to tie the Saints for first place in the NFC South.

Week 15: Saints 24, Giants 6

The Saints sacked Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito seven times and held New York’s offense out of the end zone, which makes it eight quarters that New Orleans hadn’t surrendered a touchdown.
