In a high-scoring affair, LSU was outgunned by Ole Miss in Oxford 55-49 on Saturday night.

In the stunning loss, LSU was exposed on defense and became a one-trick pony on offense, riding the arms and legs of their stellar signal caller. Is LSU’s schedule too tough?

What Went Right

LSU roared back from a 14-point deficit in the first half and climbed within three at halftime, 31-28.

With 8 minutes in the game, LSU led 49-40, but that’s all the scoring they would muster.

Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels finished 27 of 36 for 414 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 99 yards. LSU receiver Brian Thomas Jr. caught three touchdowns in the loss.

What Went Wrong

The Tigers gave up 711 yards to an Ole Miss offense that mustered a quarter of that against Alabama the week before.

Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart was 17 of 23 passing for 292 yards with three touchdowns and a QB rating of 205.3. 

After the game, LSU head coach Brian Kelly said misfires hurt the Tigers, not coaching.

“I didn’t see any playcalling issues. Felt pretty good about the playcalling,” he said.

“Jayden was terrific, threw some incredible passes. He played well,” Kelly said in post-game comments. “Our receivers made big plays and our backs ran well. They (Ole Miss) made a couple of plays at the end they needed to win and deserved to win.”

Final Word
