The New Orleans Saints shut out the Cleveland Browns 14-0 in the second half to escape with a 17-10 win on Christmas Eve at Paul Brown Stadium. The snowy conditions kept the Saints passing game from doing much, but a solid running game from Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill led the way.

The Saints needed the win to get into second place in the tight NFC South with two weeks left in the season.

Let’s take a look at regular season scores for the Saints.

Week 6: Saints 26, Bengals 30

The Saints are reeling after dropping another game they should have won easily. The Cincinnati Bengals turned on the jets in the fourth quarter, beating New Orleans, 30-26 in the Caesars Super Dome.

Week 10: 49ers 13, Saints 0

By fumbling the few opportunities they had, the Saints were shut down and shutout on Sunday, November 27, 2022, against the San Francisco 49ers.

Week 11: Tampa 17, Saints 16

After being shut down for most of the game, Tom Brady drove Tampa Bay down the field in the last minute to shock the Saints 17-14 on Sunday, December 5, 2022, with a touchdown pass. The loss just about put the nails in the Saints’ postseason hopes, almost.

Week 12: Saints 17, Browns 10

The Saints ran the ball effectively in the snow on Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Cleveland as New Orleans hung on for a 17-19 victory. The move put the Saints in second place in the NFC South along with the Panthers.

Final Word

This year the Saints hope they can capture the early season form they had last year.

New Orleans re-signed quarterback Jameis Winston on a two-year $28 million deal in the hopes that he can be the player he was in early 2021. Veteran Andy Dalton was signed as a backup.

With only play one preseason game at the Caesars Superdome, the Saints will have to gel early on to gain some momentum. With the addition of wide receiver Jarvis Landry, the offense should be able to carry the load.
